Chinese Artist Zhou Chunya Brings His Solo Show to Hong Kong

Zhou Chunya, a renowned Chinese contemporary artist, is presenting his solo exhibition in Hong Kong in collaboration with Amanda Wei Gallery. The exhibition will feature the artist’s iconic peach-blossom works in different media from oil paintings, bronze sculptures to acrylic on paper, pencil on paper and charcoal on paper, exemplifying the artist’s rich and complete artistic presentation.

Peach Blossom Series. 2006. Oil on canvas. 120 x 150cm

Zhou Chunya is a renowned Chinese contempoary artist

All the themes, images and colours of Zhou’s paintings are created in the first person narration with a strong autobiographical nature: sensitive heart, wild imagination, and spontaneous powerful presentation of subconscious expression desire.

Since the mid-1990s, he has established a distinctive colour pedigree in which colour and theme integrate perfectly by the means of deep and hidden rhetoric. It can be seen from the artist’s signature “Green Dog” and “Red Man” series.

Red Bridge in Slender West Lake. 2018. Acrylic, mineral colour on paper. 45 x 64cm

Sketch. 2018. Charcoal on paper. 21 x 29.7cm

In the peach blossom series, he continues to use this colour pedigree to match the natural landscape and consequently achieve the autonomy of colour. His colour is a dynamic language with force and speed, which intensifies contrasts and conflicts. The dynamic interplay of colours and lines in his paintings finds a new way in colour expression.

Flower Blossom on Rock. Finished in 2018. Bronze sculpture. 86 x 76 x 52 cm

Apart from oil on canvas that we usually see in the auction market, the exhibition will showcase artist’s iconic peach-blossom works in other media like bronze sculptures, acrylic on paper, pencil on paper and charcoal on paper.
