Sotheby's New York | Saturday Sale | Auction Summary

On the last day of Sotheby's New York's Asia Week 2017, there was little surprise  at "Saturday at Sotheby’s: Asian Art" auction. Top three lots all fetched prices which are much higher than their estimates, and the lot sold with the highest price is a handscroll which attributed to Dong Gao.

Dong Gao was a statesman and scholar of the Qing dynasty, served emperor Qianlong and emperor Jiaqing. The handscoll was sold for US$348,500, 174 times of the low estimate. The lot with the 2nd highest price is a bronze "figural" group, depicting Guan Yu, the God of War in Chinese culture, his adopted son Guan Ping, and his weapon bearer Zhou Cang. This figure was sold for US$150,000, 18 times of the low estimate. The lot with the 3rd highest price is a famille-rose "pheasant and peony" reticulated dish, sold for US$125,000, 41 times of its low estimate.
