The development of porcelain craftmanship has reached its height during the Ming dynasty. Ming porcelains demonstrate a rich variety of shapes and glaze colours, with excellent ceramic quality. For instance, there are the white and blue porcelains of Xuande, the joined colours (doucai) porcelains of Chenghua, and those yellow-glazed of Hongzhi... In particular, the tianbai-glazed (sweet white) porcelains, which give a tone of rich, heavy but soft white, are rarely seen in today's auction market. Exciting enough, there will be one tianbai meiping at a Sotheby's New York sale upcoming in March.
At the same sale, the auction house will also offer an exceptionally rare and important Yongle blue and white moon flask and a superbly Xuande painted rare blue and white brush waher with dragon and cloud motifs.
