Like Steve Jobs’s black turtleneck or Mark Zuckerberg’s grey T-shirt, Jensen Huang's black leather jacket has become one of the most recognisable CEO signatures of the AI era.

Now, one of those jackets is going under the hammer. Sotheby’s is staging The CEO’s Uniform, a single-lot charity sale featuring a signed Tom Ford leather jacket worn by the Nvidia CEO, estimated at US$40,000. At the time of publication, bidding had already climbed to US$65,000.

Proceeds of the auction will benefit initiatives supporting young talent in technology, science, and culture.

Huang's black leather jacket has been a constant in his wardrobe for years, appearing at product launches, developer conferences and even in a viral clip of him eating noodles in Beijing.

His jackets are reported to come from luxury labels including Dolce & Gabbana, Dunhill, and Tom Ford, with Tom Ford appearing to be a particular favourite. Similar styles from the brand generally retail in the several-thousand-dollar range.

In interviews, he has explained that he has sensitive skin and is prone to irritation from certain fabrics. The leather jackets, along with other pieces he finds comfortable, were chosen by his wife, Lori. As for why he has stuck with them for decades, he joked that the main advantage is never having to think about what colour to wear.

This is not the first time Huang’s leather jackets have appeared at auction. At the inaugural HKUST Foundation Gala Dinner in 2025, two signed jackets he donated, each embroidered with “HKUST” on the back, raised more than HK$20 million (around US$2.5 million) in support of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology.

The jacket now offered by Sotheby’s has been photomatched by prominent memorabilia authentication firm PSA to Huang’s appearance at Hon Hai Tech Day – the annual showcase held by Foxconn's parent company – in Taipei on 18 October 2023. His signature has been authenticated by James Spence Authentication.

The sale is organised by venture firm Long Journey Ventures to benefit the Edge Institute, a non-profit supporting work across technology, science, culture and society. Proceeds will fund fellowships, grants and residencies for young practitioners in those fields.
