HK$98m Fancy Vivid Blue Diamond Ring to Lead Sotheby’s Hong Kong Jewels Sale

Sotheby’s Hong Kong unveiled highlights of its Magnificent Jewels and Jadeite and Important Watches this season. Leading the sale is a 5-carat fancy vivid blue diamond ring, estimated at HK$98m-120m. Other highlights include a pair of fancy vivid yellow diamond earrings and Patek Philippe pink gold ref 2499 chronograph wristwatch.

Fancy Vivid Blue Diamond and Diamond Ring|Step-cut, 5 carats, Natural Colour, VS2 Clarity|Estimate: HK$98m - 120m (US$12.49m - 15.29m)

For every 33,000 gem-quality diamonds uncovered, only one possess the brilliance and blue colour most sought after. The formation of a beautiful blue diamond takes place far beneath the depths of the earth’s mantle, where the scarce trace elements of boron can be found from the ancient oceans providing the diamond with its unrivaled colour.

A Pair of Fancy Vivid Yellow Diamond and Diamond Pendent Earrings|Brilliant-cut, 51.17 carats, Internally Flawless to VS2 Clarity|Estimate: HK$38m - 48m (US$4.85m - 6.12m)

The eight exquisite diamonds have been awarded the grade of Fancy Vivid Yellow, the highest and most coveted colour grade for yellow diamonds. This pair of earrings draw inspiration from the Chinese idiom of "瓜瓞綿綿", which originates from the imagery of a fruitful harvest of melons flowering from their vines. 

A Diamond Necklace|Brilliant-cut, 130.61 carats|Length: 160mm|Estimate: HK$18m - 22m (US$2.29m - 2.8m)

The diamond necklace is set with sixteen brilliant-cut diamonds weighing 130.61 carats in total, links decorated with similarly cut diamonds.

A Pair of Jadeite and Diamond Pendent Earrings|HK$12m - 15m (US$1.52m - 1.91m)

The necklace is composed of fifty-one jadeite beads of brilliant emerald green colour to the diamond-set clasp. The length is approximately 560mm. The earrings are set with three oval jadeite cabochons of brilliant emerald green colour on each side, decorated by brilliant-cut diamonds.

Patek Philippe Pink Gold Chronograph Wristwatch|Reference 2499, Retailed by Tiffany & Co.|Estimate: HK$12m - 18m (US$955,425 - 1.52m)

The reference 2499 watch was first introduced by Patek Philippe in 1950 and made in five series until 1986. This reference 2499 third series cased in pink gold and retailed by Tiffany first surface at auction in 2005 where it was consigned by the original owner. The watch sold for over US$750,000 and has been kept privately ever since. There are only six examples known of the third series dressed in pink gold.

With over 170 years of history, Patek Philippe has managed to make its name a synonym of the highest quality complications with minute repeating functions. The production of wristwatches with minute repeaters is still delivered by the most skilled watchmakers. Reference 5216 brings the minute repeater to a further level of sophistication.

Rolex Platinum Chronograph Wristwatch with Mother of Pearl Dial|Reference 16516 Cosmograph Daytona|Estimate: HK$3.2m - 4.8m (US$407,648 - 611,472)

Manufactured by Rolex in 1999, this is the only known platinum Daytona and is complete with its certificates and accessories. This historically important wristwatch was discovered for the very first time only recently, which is fresh to the market and previously unknown. This watch has been given a unique reference number 16516 and the dial is made from black mother of pearl radiating a powerful impact. The back is inscribed with "Francesca - Romain 16.10.1999".
