Over 130 works from the collection of pioneering video game executive Ryan Brant will be up for auction across a series of sales at Sotheby’s from 26 September to spring 2020. Leading the group is a selection of more than 25 works by KAWS.

Ryan Brant founded video game publisher Take-Two Interactive in September 1993. The company owns two major publishing labels, Rockstar Games and 2K, and its portfolio includes numerous successful video game series such as Grand Theft Auto, NBA 2K, Red Dead. Brant stepped down as CEO in 2001 and left the company in 2007. He died of cardiac arrest in March 2019 at age 47.
Brant was born into a collecting family with an illustrious presence in arts. His father, Peter Brant, the owner and chairman of Brant Publications, is an early collector of Andy Warhol and a major collector of Franz Kline. Ryan was raised in an environment of immense creativity and aesthetic stimulation and assembled a great collection of paintings, decorative arts and furniture during his life. Known as an early collector and advocate of KAWS, Ryan was ahead of the curve in his appreciation for cutting-edge contemporary artists, in addition to his passion for the avant-garde designs of the Camapana brothers, Sottsass and more.
The collection features works by many of the most innovative and celebrated artists and designers of the 20th century, including Fernando and Humberto Campana, Ettore Sottsass and Wendell Castle. Here are some highlights from the collection.
