Patek Philippe Dominates Important Watches Sale at Poly Auction Hong Kong

In the Important Watches auction held at Poly Auction Hong Kong, Patek Philippe dominated the sale by taking the top four places at the sale. The sale realised a total of HK$65.6m (US$8.37m). The four most expensive Patek Philippe watches were sold for a combined value of HK$38.8m (US$4.95m), accounted for nearly 60% of the sale total.

The most expensive watch of the sale was Patek Philippe ref.6002G white gold double dialed wristwatch. It was sold for HK$21.2m (US$2.7m) after premium, contributing one-third of the sale total.

Patek Philipe 6002G is in a limited edition of only five pieces

Each watch has a unique texture on the case

This Ref 6002G Sky Moon tourbillon wristwatch was made in circa 2014. The Philippe Sky Moon Tourbillon 6002 is an upgraded version of 5002. With a movement of calibre 89, the wristwatch has 33 complicated functions including minute repeating on cathedral gongs, tourbillon, perpetual calendar, retrograde date, sky chart, moon phases, orbit display and sidereal time. It is the most complicated portable mechanical wristwatch to date.

Each watch has a unique texture on the case as it is completely hand-crafted from a large white gold. What makes the present watch even rarer is that this blue-dial edition was produced in a limited quantity of only 5 pieces and the edition has been discontinued. The rarity explains the reason why this watch could fetch up to HK$21.2m (US$2.7m).

The back side of the watch features complex sky-chart inspired by the Star Calibre 2000 pocket watch

Ranking in the second place was Patek Philipe 5002P Sky Moon Tourbillon, which was sold for HK$10.5m (US$1.34m) with premium included. Launched in 2001, the Sky Moon Tourbillon Ref.5002 is one of the first Patek Philippe watches that feature on a double dial ultra-complicated function watch.

The manually wound mechanical calibre RTO 27 QR SID LU CL has 686 parts in total, presenting twelve complicated technologies. The back side of the watch features complex sky-chart inspired by the Star Calibre 2000 pocket watch. Less than two of this watch are produced and assembled every year. Patek Philippe reserves such a wonderful work of art for the most prestigious customers who fulfil all the listed criteria before being put on the waiting list.

The colours of white and blue are inspired by Abu Dhabi F1 track

A map of racing track is printed on the sapphire case

The Yas Marina Circuit, Abu Dhabi F1 track

The third top watch of the sale fell to Richard Mille limited edition NTPT carbon tonneau-shaped tourbillon dual time zone wristwatch. There are only five pieces of this watch in the world. The present one offered at the auction, ref RM003 AO Ti-Ca, made in circa 2015, was sold for HK$4.54m (with buyer’s premium).

This watch is inspired by the dazzling Abu Dhabi F1 track. The Yas Marina Circuit colours of white and blue are adopted on the inner bezel and the sapphire case back has a map of racing track printed on it. Watch owners can also control the function indicator by the button at the crown, turning the watch in the state winding (W), handsetting (H) and neutral (N), as if you are controlling the F1 racing car.
