Top Three Lots from Yu Gong Sales at Beijing Poly Auction

Beijing Poly Auction netted RMB 340m from two sessions of Yu Gong sales, achieving a sell-through rate of 95%. The first session was a single-lot sale of a Kangxi imperial falangcai ‘peony’ bowl, and the second session was led by Tang-type celadon glazed ‘dragon’ vase and the most expensive Chinese classical furniture — a pair of huanghuali-wood ‘phoenix’ cabinets from the Kangxi period

The top lot fell to the most expensive Chinese classical furniture  — a pair of huanghuali-wood ‘phoenix’ cabinets from the Kangxi period — which drew intense bidding battle after the bidding started at RMB 42m. The lot was hammered down for RMB 86m and sold for RMB 98.9m to a telephone bidder.

Featured on the cover of the catalogue, a Tang-type celadon glazed ‘dragon’ vase also witnessed fervent interest from buyers. Estimated at RMB 10m-15m, the vase was hammered down for RMB 36m and sold for RMB 41.4m, four times its estimate.

Offered at its single-lot sale, a Kangxi imperial falangcai ‘peony’ bowl also made it to the top three. It carried an estimate of RMB 16m-26m and asked for an opening bid of RMB 13m. It was hammered down for RMB 31m and sold for RMB 35.65m with buyer’s premium.

The base is inscribed with a four-character seal mark of Kangxi period
