China Guardian Hong Kong Sets Foot in Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre

In the past, only the two leading auction houses, Christie’s and Sotheby’s, are eligible to hold their auctions in Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC). Until recently, for the very first time, China Guardian autumn auction is going to take place in HKCEC from 30th September to 3rd October, same as Sotheby’s auction.

China Guardian Auctions used to take place in a hotel.

Coming to its 5th anniversary in Hong Kong, China Guardian has taken a leap forward by setting its foot in HKCEC, a move that shows its ambition to tap into the market. China Guardian is now bearing fruit thanks to its hard work and devotion in the past 20 years. They have built a robust clientele in Mainland China and had set up offices in Tokyo, Taipei and New York before starting its business in Hong Kong.

China Guardian will hold its auction in hall 5BC in HKCEC while Sotheby’s auction will be in hall 1. It is rare to see two auction houses in HKCEC at the same period. In 2016, Taikang Life Insurance, one of the China’s largest insurers, acquired 13.5% of Sotheby’s shares and has become its biggest shareholder. Taikang Life Insurance was founded by the chairman, Chen Dongsheng (image above), who is also the founder of China Guardian. He is an influential person in Chinese politics and his wife, Kong Dongmei, is the granddaughter of Mao Zedong.

Below are some highlights at China Guardian Autumn Auction. The Value will keep you all posted of any updates.
