“Himalayan Art” sale was finished on 13th March, the two lots with highest and 2nd highest estimate, a gilt copper alloy figure of Vajravarahi densatil and an iridescent copper alloy figure of Parshvanatha, were sold with the highest and 2nd highest price respectively. While the lot with the 3rd highest estimate, a stone plaque with scenes from the life of buddha, was not sold at the auction.
Another lot which was also sold with the highest price, is a gilt copper alloy figure of Tara. This figure is decorated with inset turquoise, a noted Tibetan proclivity, while the treatment of lower garment and the lotus base also pertain closely to Tibetan style of the 15th century. The lotus base has broad leaves with upturned curlicue tips, which suggests the influence of the early Ming dynasty style.
