Bonhams’ Online Whisky Sale in Hong Kong presents a collection of 440 lots, which will be led by a Hibiki 21-year-old Ceramic Collection Arita & Kutani. The collection of 28 ceramic bottles is estimated to fetch between HK$600,000 and HK$800,000.
Paying tribute to the art of traditional Japanese ceramic, Suntory releases a limited edition every year in handmade ceramic bottles from the Arita (有田) and Kutani (九谷) kilns containing Hibiki-21-year-old whisky. It is a very rare opportunity to acquire a full set of the collection from the first release in 2001 to the latest in 2014.

Arita ware (有田焼) refers to Japanese porcelain made in the area around the town of Artia, in the former Hizen Province, an area where the great majority of Japanese export porcelain was made. Arita ware, notable for its translucent quality, are usually painted with beautiful patterns in blue and white or red glaze. They are reminiscent of watercolour painted on pure white paper.
Equally beautiful in another way, Kutani ware shows vivid and bold colours that epitomise lavish aesthetics. It is best known for its classical five colours style which includes green, blue, yellow, purple, and red. The designs normally depict landscapes, the beauty of nature, and people, and cover most of the surface of each piece.

The 28 bottles (14 bottles from the Arita kiln and 14 bottles from the Kutani kiln) come in different bottle shapes and painted with depiction of various topics ranging from flowers like peony, bamboo and plum blossom, to animals like crane, horse, bird and dragon.

Another highlight of the sale is a Macallan Lalique-55-year-old, estimated at HK$500,000-650,000. This 55-year-old Macallan in a Lalique decanter was released in 2007, with only 420 individually numbered decanters made available worldwide.
Inspired by Lalique's classic Paquerettes tiara perfume bottle, this decanter is a nod back to the designing power and influence of Rene Lalique in 1910. Made in varying amber coloured crystals to reflect The Macallan's natural colour, the decanter stopper embodies Lalique's mastery of crystal and is one of the most difficult colours for crystal makers to achieve.
