Yamazaki 50-year-old Whisky Goes on Sale for HK$2.4m

Early this year, Yamazaki Single Malt Whisky Aged 50 Years NV set a new auction record for Japanese whisky after selling for HK$2.33m (US$298,879) at Sotheby’s Hong Kong. As the strong demand in the market for fine Japanese whisky continues, a rare first edition of Yamazaki-50 year old is also estimated to fetch up to HK$2.4m (US$305,784) in Hong Kong on 17 August.

The oldest expression from the famous Japanese distillery, the whisky was matured in casks made from mizunara (Japanese Oak) before being bottled and released in 2005. Only 50 bottles were produced, making it one of the scarcest Japanese whiskies.

In addition to the Yamazaki-50 year old, the sale will offer more than 40 bottles of Yamazaki including a 35-year-old expression that is expected to be sold for between HK$350,000-500,000.

If you are a fan of The Rolling Stones, here is a bottle of whisky that celebrates the 50th anniversary of the formation of the world-famous rock band. Distilled and bottled by Suntory Ltd, the present lot is one of 150 bottles. This whisky is a blend of carefully selected malts distilled and casked in milestone years throughout the band's 50-year history.

Other lots include a selection of Macallans, such as Macallan Fine & Rare-1937-37 year old (estimate: HK$260,000-320,000) and Macallan Fine & Rare-1946-56 year old (estimate: HK$250,000-300,000).
