Interesting Works Not to Be Missed at Art Central 2019

Art Central has kicked off its fifth edition featuring 107 galleries from Asia and around the globe. Besides artworks from more established names, the show also presents cutting-edge works, interactive installations, and thought-provoking performances. Here are some interesting works picked out by our editors.

The Authentic Quality: HK|Minja Gu

Artists always take inspiration from our everyday lives. That’s how Korean artist Minja Gu got the inspiration for her performance in Art Central this year. She takes the ubiquitous two-minute noodle packet into a pop-up restaurant performance The Authentic Quality: HK where she adopts the persona of a cooking infomercial personality. She uses the cup noodles as a tool to prompt conversational exchange about food culture and societal pressure to conform.

Smiling Angels from the Sky|Heri Dono

Having grown up in a tumultuous period of Indonesian history, Indonesian artist Heri Dono often confronts violence and social turmoil in his work, as well as Western culture as it is viewed in his country. Here, his work Smiling Angels from the Sky represents a symbol of hope for the future.
